Chronic low back pain affects 6 in 10 people over their lifetime. The cost in terms of healthcare utilization and losses in labor productivity run into billions annually (e.g., $105 Billion in the U.S., £12.3 Billion in the UK, €48.9 billion in Germany).
For many patients, conventional therapies fail to provide the level of pain management needed, and with limited access to pain clinics, many people continue to suffer from chronic back pain. Considering the significant costs to both individuals, and our economy, healthcare providers should consider all available options to help resolve chronic and severe pain.
Professor Hegarty demonstrated how creating a pain clinic utilizing BioWave technology has impacted his pain treatment regimen and pain management path for patients. He examined the physiological reasons why the use of a non-invasive neuromodulation device can provide the clinical outcomes reported with BioWave.

Dr. Dominic Hegarty is a Consultant in Pain Management & Neuromodulation at the Mater Private Hospital, Cork, Senior Clinical Lecturer, and faculty member of ASSERT training at University College Cork. At present he is the incoming President Elect of World Institute of Pain (WIP), Immediate past Honorary treasurer of WIP and on the Advisory Board of PainCast. Dr. Hegarty is a faculty member on several international organizations including WIP, IASP and ERSA. He is an active researcher & has published extensively on pain management. Dr. Hegarty is the Clinical Director of Pain Relief Ireland.
